Description

Agustín holds a PhD and has developed his professional career as a geologist, researcher, and university professor, specialising in geology, natural resources, territorial assessment, and environmental evaluation. With more than 30 years of experience supporting land acquisitions, land evaluation and natural resource assessment. With a professional track record spanning more than 20 countries, he has advised investors, corporations, institutions and landowners on projects involving natural resources, territorial development and strategic land assets across diverse geological, environmental and regulatory settings.
As a consultant to Gateway to South America, he advises investment funds, family offices, developers, corporations, and strategic investors seeking exposure to land assets where geology, water resources, environmental conditions, and territorial characteristics directly influence long-term value creation. His assignments have ranged from strategic development sites and natural resource opportunities to the evaluation of a single rural property comprising approximately 400,000 hectares, at the time considered among the largest privately-held land assets brought to the international investment market.
His work is centred on Land Technical Due Diligence (Land TDD), providing independent assessment of land assets before acquisition, development or capital deployment. By integrating geology, hydrogeology, soils, environmental factors and natural resource potential, he helps investors identify material risks, development constraints and hidden opportunities before capital is committed.
Advisory Focus
Agustín provides independent, investor-oriented advisory services for evaluating land assets throughout South America. His work reduces uncertainty in land transactions by transforming complex geological, environmental and territorial information into practical investment intelligence.
He supports the assessment of premium rural properties, strategic land acquisitions, natural resource opportunities, infrastructure projects and development sites where factors such as water security, soil capability, environmental constraints and accessibility may significantly influence investment outcomes.
His approach helps investors validate assumptions, compare opportunities, identify risks and recognize long-term value drivers often overlooked in conventional real estate evaluations.
Professional Experience
Agustín is Founder and Director of Landed Argentina, a boutique consultancy specialising in Land Technical Due Diligence, natural resource advisory, industrial minerals evaluation, environmental assessment and strategic land acquisition support. Through this platform, he has advised private investors, corporations and institutions involved in natural resources, infrastructure, energy and land-based investments.
He served as a strategic advisor to Carmeuse, supporting the company’s Latin American expansion program and participating in technical evaluations, business development initiatives, and industrial mineral opportunities across Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Uruguay, and Cuba.
His institutional experience includes work as a coordinator-level consultant under the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) PROFIP Program, as well as natural resource assessment and territorial planning projects for the Government of San Juan, the Municipality of Malargüe, Mendoza, and CAMYEN in the Province of Catamarca. He also participated in the CUEMECO Program (Mendoza & Neuquén), supporting the identification, classification, and assessment of productive land resources throughout the Colorado River Basin. Accredited consultant to the Secretariat of Environment of the Province of San Juan, Argentina. Recipient of the San Francisco Award for outstanding contributions to environmental protection and sustainable resource management.
He serves as Professor and Researcher at the Institute of Mining Research of the National University of San Juan and has collaborated internationally with RWTH Aachen University, Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg and Brown University. He is also an Advisory Board Member of the European Union DEXPLORE Project.
Throughout his career, he has participated in technical evaluations and natural resource assessments involving organisations such as Barrick, Carmeuse, Loma Negra, Saint-Gobain, Compañía Minera del Pacífico, Glencore Argentina, Xstrata Copper, Minera TEA, Minera Volcán, Levin Asset and others.
Selected Strengths
Agustín’s principal strength lies in integrating geological, environmental and land-use information into investment-oriented decision frameworks. His work bridges the gap between technical assessment and investment analysis, allowing investors to understand both the opportunities and limitations of land assets before acquisition.
His experience spans geological risk assessment, hydrogeological evaluation, soil capability analysis, environmental assessment, industrial minerals evaluation and natural resource identification. He is particularly recognised for helping investors understand how water availability, geological conditions, infrastructure access and resource potential influence long-term land value and development feasibility.
Having worked across public institutions, academia, multinational corporations and private investment environments, he combines technical depth with a practical understanding of investment requirements, transaction processes and long-term asset stewardship.
